WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
About Woodcare Products

Issue #312 - April 2009
For some strange reason, few products are the subject of more mischaracterizations and misunderstandings than wood care products. Finding the truth about wood polishes, waxes, and cleaners is a bit like trying to find the truth about eating eggs: Some say they’re good for you, some say they’re bad, and others say they’re good in moderation.

Wood care products have been represented in much the same way. Some people see them as a good way to preserve your furniture’s finish,

believing they actually restore the wood’s moisture and extend its life. Others perceive polishes as the cause of waxy buildup and furniture deterioration.

The reality about these products, however, is that neither of these things is true. Polishes, waxes, and wood cleaners aren’t all good, and they aren’t all bad… but they do have a place in caring for and preserving the wood around your home. Here’s what you need to know.
