Working with Melamine

Countersink Drill Bits
  Issue #304 - December 2007
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Or, to be more specific to most homes, the more your decorations and electronics change, the more the shelving that holds these components stays the same.
Thankfully, there’s an easy way to break free from this rut of static storage shelves. The solution is to create a new system of organization, one that’s easily customizable to fill any space and hold any items that you desire. That’s precisely what these stackable storage “cubes” do.

The system consists of two sizes of cubes: One is square, and the other is
rectangular and twice the length of the square. That means two squares match the width, or height, of a rectangle, depending on how you stack them.

Besides being versatile, these units are also made with just a few parts — melamine, strips of oak, hardboard, and screws. This not only makes them easy to build, but the contrast of the white melamine with the natural oak also creates a clean, contemporary look.
